On April 7, 2007 in Beijing, China, the 12th annual Gourmand Awards were presented. The Gourmand World Cookbook Awards recognize and honor the achievement of a high level of excellence for the professionals of food and wine writing and publishing. The media have called the Awards the Oscars or the Nobel of the culinary world.

Ginkgo Press, an international leader in culinary travel guides, won Best in the World in this category for Eat Smart in Peru, How to Decipher the Menu, know the Market Foods, and Embark on a Tasting Adventure.

The book is written by Joan Peterson and Brook Soltvedt, and beautifully illustrated by Susan Chwae.
